I am a self taught web developer. I developed my first HTML website (JoelCookDesigns.com) to promote my graphic design portfolio ten years ago. I began building and managing websites in Nvu, Adobe Dreamweaver, and File Zilla. JoelCookDesign.com landed me my first “in house” web development and marketing management job at Industrial Training University. Since then I have become accustomed to and prefer the web development tool and blog software program called WordPress. I have become somewhat of a WordPress guru and by word of mouth have acquired many WordPress website clients.
I have extensive training in Adobe programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign and Acrobat Pro. I’m also familiar with Macromedia Freehand, Bryce, Super Paint, and Power Point on both Microsoft and Macintosh computers. I am also trained in video editing programs such as Camtasia studio, Pinnacle, Sony Vegas, and Adobe Flash. I have developed a particular passion for typography and writing, therefore, I excel at developing, publishing, and printing physical newsletters as well as newsletters for email marketing.
I have studied fine art extensively, which has improved my creative thinking capabilities. My artistic abilities, range from free hand sketching, creating thumbnails, charcoal and ink drawing, watercolor and acrylic painting and much more.
I have become an exceptional photographer both in and out of the classroom. I have professionally photographed and developed weddings, taken pictures in the field for web development and marketing purposes as well many other freelance projects. I am also trained in black and white print production and photo editing (photoshop).
Before becoming a web and graphics designer I worked as a carpenter for about five years. Skills acquired through both my education and in the field include framing, electrical branch wiring, plumbing, drywall, siding, roofing, duct work, brick laying, and painting.
